FAQ
WHAT IS SELVEDGE
Selvedge denim refers to a unique type of fabric that is made using one continuous cross-yarn that is passed back and forth through the vertical warp beams of the loom. The result is a fabric that comes off of the loom with a woven edge that will not fray, ravel, or curl. Selvedge fabrics are manufactured on shuttle looms that are typically 28 to 31" wide, which is half of the width of a modern loom. On our jeans, the selvedge edge is exposed on the out seam of both legs as well as the interior fly piece and inside the coin pocket. We are the first manufacturer to use the selvedge on the interior fly piece.

WHAT IS RAW DENIM?
Raw denim, also known as dry denim, is a fabric simply as it comes off of the loom. It is denim that is not washed or processed in any way after it is manufactured.
HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY JEANS?
All Jean Shop jeans should be washed in cold water and hung to dry. Heat from hot water or the dryer will shrink them, especially in the length. If they are put in the hot dryer you can expect them to shrink as much as 1.5". It is a great idea to simply hand wash in cold water and hang to dry. Here's a helpful video by Mr. Porter on the subject:

IS YOUR FABRIC SANFORIZED?
Yes, all of our fabric is sanforized. This is done to control the shrinkage of the product. If it were not sanforized you would get as much as 20% shrinkage with a home wash as well as torqued or distorted legs on the jeans.
INDIGO AS A DYE IS SUPPOSED TO RUB OFF
This characteristic is referred to as indigo crocking or color rub off. Crocking is very common when you get a new pair of indigo jeans, especially raw! Indigo as a dye is supposed to rub off, that characteristic is actually the beauty of indigo and how you will get all that natural wear everyone loves in a vintage jean. You can minimize this by simply washing your jeans in cold water and hanging them to dry a few times before wearing them. Please be sure to wash them alone so the indigo does not get on anything else in the machine. The crocking will subside after a few washings/wearings. If you get it on your hands or clothing it will wash off with soap and water.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE JEANS?
Waist: Measure the top of the waistband from one side to the other. Double to get the waist measurement.
Front rise: Measure from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband.
Thigh: Measure 7" down from the crotch seam and then across the leg. Double to get the thigh measurement.
Bottom Opening: Measure across the leg opening from one side to the other. Double to get the bottom opening.
